At its core, MTK Client operates by exploiting the preloader and bootrom stages of a MediaTek device's boot sequence. When a MediaTek-powered device is powered off and connected to a computer via USB, the preloader—a small program embedded in the device's processor—can be triggered to enter BROM mode. In this mode, the tool can read from and write to the device's flash memory, bypassing many of the security restrictions that normally prevent unauthorized access.
